For the past 10 yrs, Dr. Duerk has led the basic science research program in imaging in the Dept of Radiology at Case/UHC.  His group typically consists of 10 grad students, 2-3 MD and 2-3 Ph.D. research fellows.  Their primary research has been in the development of MRI methods for rapid scanning (i.e., spirals, adaptive imaging, fat suppression) that facilitate cancer and cardiovascular image guided therapy.  This work, begun in 1994, has been used in over 400 patient procedures and 20 labs throughout the world.   In 2002, Duerk, his colleague Jon Lewin, and Case created the startup company, Interventional Imaging, Inc. (I3) that recently completed a $1.02 million Series A fundraising. Dr. Duerk has 5 patents issued and over 20 pending; over 30 of his intellectual properties have been licensed to industry.
